Old-School Looks With Modern Muscle
The Ram TRX is a popular platform for 6×6 builds, including Hennessey’s Mammoth 1000 6×6 and Apocalypse’s Warlord 6×6. However, both retain much of the original pickup’s styling, making this particular build with vintage-inspired bodywork stand out from the crowd.
North Carolina-based Desert Power Wagons has unveiled Project Colossus 6×6, which features the underpinnings of a 2021 Ram 1500 TRX but the styling of a classic Dodge Power Wagon. The vintage look might be deceiving, but underneath, the truck boasts a claimed 1,000 horsepower from a 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8.

The Beast Beneath
That’s about a 298-hp bump compared to the stock figure. It is even more powerful than the latest TRX iteration, which now comes from the factory with 777 hp, surpassing the Ford F-150 Raptor R’s 720-hp rating. The performance boost was made possible with National Speed’s Stage-3 upgrades, which include upgraded valve springs and pushrods, a 108mm throttle body, and Injector Dynamics ID1050x fuel injectors, among others.
The drivetrain uses a full-time BorgWarner transfer case offering 6WD Auto, 6WD High, and 6WD Low modes. With its six-wheel-drive setup, Project Colossus should offer better traction and improved weight distribution, which could help it navigate challenging off-road terrain. On the flip side, the setup could increase maintenance costs and result in worse fuel economy than a standard Ram 1500 TRX.
But perhaps the styling is the highlight of the build. Tisdale Coachworks crafted the custom four-door crew cab and bodywork that recalls the early Dodge Power Wagon dating back to the 1940s. The Power Wagon was Dodge’s first mass-produced civilian 4×4 truck, drawing inspiration from its World War II military trucks. It was designed primarily for farmers, construction workers, utility companies, and other businesses. This custom build, however, is distinct for riding on much more modern underpinnings.

A Power Wagon With a Premium
Desert Power Wagons has listed Project Colossus for $599,950, with 10,202 miles already on the odometer. For perspective, that’s roughly the price of six new 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRXs, although none would come with six-wheel drive or vintage-inspired styling.
The original military-style Power Wagon is long gone, but the nameplate lives on today in the Ram 2500 lineup. For years, the modern Power Wagon has been offered with a 6.4-liter Hemi V8, but for the 2027 model year, a 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel inline-six is also available, giving buyers an alternative with significantly more torque and higher towing and payload capacities.
