The Perfect Recipe

The Mazda Miata is considered a sacred model; a dedicated group of followers and fanatics praise the car as the only true sports car left in the world. The recipe from the first generation to now has generally stayed the same, keeping the car as light and compact as possible without spoiling its fun, approachable handling.

Some people, though, feel the MX-5 Miata needs more power for a little extra excitement. To prove it’s possible, a tuning company has done so with a previous-generation model.

The Rocketeer NC V6

British tuning house Rocketeer has just announced its latest creation: an NC-generation MX-5 Miata with a V6. The Rocketeer NC uses a heavily modified Jaguar AJ30 3.0-liter V6, engineered and tuned specifically for the platform. The Rocketeer’s V6 makes 300bhp and 265 lb-ft of torque, which the tuner claims stays true to the brand’s philosophy of pairing old-school analog driving enjoyment with modern powertrain engineering.

The Rocketeer NC is a turnkey product, meaning you can purchase the car as a finished product with all the tuning goodies included. Rocketeer goes further, rebuilding and re-engineering the car from the ground up with a bespoke cylinder head design. It’s not just about power; the Rocketeer NC build includes a newly designed carbon fiber engine plenum, a new exhaust system, a throttle body, a clutch, and a flywheel.

No Homemade Kits

As mentioned, the Rocketeer NC is a turnkey product, and the company says this is because the build’s complexity must be handled by in-house mechanics and engineers in the U.K. or by accredited installers in Germany, the USA, or Australia. According to the website, it costs $33,342 (converted).
