With a starting price under $60,000, the Lyriq enters a competitive battlefield, aiming to steal buyers from the volume-selling Tesla Model Y while offering a more compelling value proposition against the much pricier German establishment, such as the Audi Q8 e-tron, BMW iX, and Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV.

You will not mistake the Lyriq for anything else in the parking lot. In a sea of EVs obsessed with aerodynamic-but-bland “jelly bean” styling, the Lyriq is an art deco style statement with wheels. It looks very similar to the stunning concept car that debuted it, a rare feat in auto design. The front is dominated by a massive, intricate black crystal “grille” that is also a canvas for a stunning lighting ballet that welcomes you to the car. The razor-thin vertical LED headlights and taillights are a clear nod to Cadillac’s finned heritage, but executed with futuristic precision. It’s a genuinely unique and style-forward design that makes a statement before you ever open the door.

Interior Quality, Design, and Tech: 8.5/10
The “wow” factor continues inside. The cabin is open, airy, and dominated by a single, curved 33-inch diagonal LED display. It’s beautifully integrated and arcs from the driver’s gauge cluster all the way to the center console, displaying maps, media, and vehicle data with stunning clarity. The quality is a true return to form for Cadillac, with real knurled metal dials, intricate laser-etched wood, and plush, comfortable seating. It’s a properly luxurious and high-tech environment.

But the Lyriq’s ace in the hole is Super Cruise. On over 400,000 miles of compatible highways, you can activate the system, take your hands completely off the wheel, and let the car take over. It will steer, brake, and accelerate with uncanny smoothness. It even changes lanes for you with just a tap of the turn signal. It really does help turn highway commutes into a serene, stress-free experience.

The Lyriq is built on GM’s Ultium platform, the bedrock of its entire EV portfolio. This dedicated architecture allows for a 102 kWh battery pack. In terms of power, the Lyriq offers two flavors to choose from: a perfectly capable single-motor Rear-Wheel Drive model delivering 365 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, or a potent dual-motor All-Wheel Drive version that brings 515 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque for substantial acceleration.

Range is fair and competitive. The RWD model is EPA-estimated for 326 miles, while the more powerful AWD version is right behind it at 319 miles. When it’s time to plug in, the charging speed is also competitive, allowing you to add around 85 miles of range in 10 minutes. For daily use, it’s an all-around easy vehicle to live with. Ideally, you charge it at home overnight and wake up to a “full tank” every morning.
