Harvey Tools announced their new D-1 Dream Saw, a safety-focused woodworking table saw that looks to take on SawStop.
Few details are available, outside of promo videos the brand posted from a recent woodworking show.
Harvey Tools’ posts feature attendees poking their fingers and hands into what looks to be a dummy blade.
According a paid spokesperson for the Harvey Woodworking brand, the new D-1 table saw features non-contact hand detection that does not require users to touch the saw.
Once the new Harvey safety saw detects a hand approaching the blade, the motor brakes and retracts.
The spokesperson says that the Harvey Dream table saw blade “stops and drops instantly.” Harvey Tools and their content partners did not elaborate upon what “instantly” actually means.
Besides the non-contact flesh detection, the next big takeaway is that Harvey’s blade retraction mechanism does not destroy your blade. Also unlike SawStop table saws, there is no cartridge to replace. You reset the saw and get back to work.
They said the saw can tell the difference between wood – dry or wet – and skin, meaning “no false triggers.”
Features also include a digital readout.
It looks to me that Harvey built upon the approach Felder took with their safety table saws. (SawStop sued Felder in 2024 over patent infringement – see SawStop Sued Another Table Saw Maker over Safety Tech Patents – and the case was hastily dismissed.)
I expect that, once they’re finally made available, Harvey marketing materials will talk about all the different ways AI is integrated into the table saw.
