Festool and Shaper have announced that a big changeup is coming in 2027.
A few months from now, “Shaper’s product lineup will officially move into the Festool portfolio.”
There’s a lot of talk about “shared visions” and “creating foundations,” but what does it all mean?
It seems to me that Festool is absorbing Shaper, which is owned by the same parent company.
Shaper issued a separate announcement, saying they will continue selling products thgrough the end of October, after which there will be a transition.
The company says they “are committed to supporting customers throughout the transition, in 2026 and into the future.”
What I’m worried about is that this screams “layoffs are coming.” Festool USA went through layoffs a few months ago. Does this news mean Shaper is closing their separate offices?
Why would there be a several month “transition” before Shaper’s Origin tools and accessories “officially become part of the Festool porfolio?”
Shaper says they’ll be offering “special pricing” through the end of October – “up to $500 cash discounts plus $390 in free accessories.” It seems they’re always offering discounts and accessory bundle savings, and so it’s not immediately clear if this new special pricing is anything different.
This is being described as “an important update” on Shaper’s “journey.” “This next step creates an exciting future.”
Vague uncertainties always seem ominous to me. Festool USA’s rumored money troubles doesn’t do much to assuage my concerns.
There is also the potential that this will all lead up to a brand new Shaper Origin product launch that will be entirely engineered and branded by Festool, with direct Festool integrations and support moving forward.
Still, talk like “until then, it’s business as usual” makes it sound like this is the end of the road for Shaper as a tool brand.
Festool USA no longer has direct media or marketing contacts, and Shaper has not responded to our requests or inquiries.

Is it a good idea to buy Shaper products during their “Next Chapter” sales event?
Is this a massive sell-off before the company closes? Is simply rebranded? Or launches an improved next-gen product?
Personally, I’d stay clear until either the companies provide clarity about what exactly will happen in 2027, or we see what happens at that time.
