New Kobalt tool sets have been popping up on Lowe’s website, and there’s been a common theme – more colors.
I noticed a trend last holiday season – Lowe’s Launched Colorful Kobalt Tool Deals for Black Friday – where a sea of blue tools had been filled in with green and pink handles.
This year, Lowe’s is going hard after the softer colors crowd, with pink, purple, and teal tools.

The standard Kobalt 228pc tool set features a 2-drawer tool box with top lid compartment. The tools have blue handles where applicable, and the plastic tool box components are black.
This is the first I’ve seen of the 228pc Kobalt “household tool set” at Lowe’s, featuring some mechanics tools, pliers, wrenches, wrenches, screwdrivers, tape measure, utility knife, level, combination wiring tool, and over a 100 “hardware pieces.”
At the time of this posting it’s priced at $164.
Looking through many pages of user reviews on Lowe’s product page, I couldn’t find any that reference this exact 228pc tool kit. Maybe it’s brand new, and that’s why I haven’t seen it before. In that case, why did Lowe’s populate the product page with hundreds of reviews for other Kobalt tool sets?

The same tool set is, or at least looks like it will be, available in pink.

And purple. Sorry, “lavender.”

It wasn’t until I got to the teal version of the same kit that I realized Lowe’s has also changed the color of the plastic tool drawers. That seems like a nice touch.
Is splashing more tools with color going to continue to be a winning formula for Lowe’s?
