This is not going to be the type of post where I ask a question in the title and then proceed to answer it.
Really, why aren’t Makita tools more popular right now?
I doubt there are any quality issues, as Makita tools tend to be well-built with modern features.
Is it the breadth of their lineups? Every cordless power tool system has some strengths, weaknesses, and gaps. For better or worse, Makita is no different.
Could it be the price?
Around 9 years ago, Milwaukee launched their first Packout tool boxes and storage products. I thought their pricing, higher than for other modular tool storage systems at the time, was high enough that it could hamper adoption.
To my surprise, tool users paid the higher prices and Packout’s popularity surged.
So why would price be a factor here, with Makita cordless power tools?
Maybe it’s the availability? But consider tool brands such as Knipex or Wera. Do you buy this in stores or online?
I guess there are a bunch of factors, with no specific cause.
There are some cordless power tool systems that just don’t make sense to me, and I’d never recommend them.
Frankly, I’m surprised that Makita seems to have lost some of the market share they used to have. I believe Dewalt and Milwaukee gobbled it up, and did the same to some other pro tool brands.
This seems like a topic we should discuss.
