I went to a Home Depot Creator event a few weeks ago, and towards the end they presented us with some options for a free grill.
Propane? Charcoal? Wood pellet?
I picked the Traeger. And this is the model they’re sending, the Traeger Pro 34 Wood Pellet Grill and Smoker. It’s not the same model as what we saw at the Home Depot event, but free is nice (thank you! THD)!

From the product photos, it looks like the Traeger is suited for meat and veggies.
I’m thinking chicken and veggies. Turkey burgers? (I’ve been avoiding red meat.)
Before I began my search for beginner tips and tricks, I figured I’d check with you guys and tap into your years of experience.
For example, what kind of pellets should I buy first?
It doesn’t come with a grill cover. Should I go with the Traeger, which I might be able to find locally, or would you recommend a 3rd party brand?
Maybe I’ll take a day later this month and just make it a grilling experience day where I try a bunch of things on this Traeger (once it arrives of course) and new recipes or techniques on my Weber propane grill.
Speaking of which, got any good recipes? I’m still thinking about the marinated beef sticks from the event! See Home Depot Unmatched 2026 had Awesome Grilling!
At the event, a Home Depot contact says that she even makes desserts on her pellet grill. That sounds good too.
So… yeah, what do I need to know, before I go down the internet rabbit hole for anonymous general recommendations? I’m sure there are tons of “getting started” posts and videos, but I know you guys will be able to help me cut through the fluff faster.
