Bentley is a brand backed by tradition and heritage; it is one of the very few left that really harps on about its storied past and uses it as a basis to keep building on its newer models. However, because it is still part of a major conglomerate in the form of the Volkswagen Group, it must still have an eye towards the future.
One of the ways it’s doing this is through the launch of its first-ever fully battery electric vehicle (BEV); the Torcal SUV. Given its forward-thinking nature, the Torcal is expected to have some of the most advanced luxury features on the market; one of those features has just been announced.
The Curation Engine
The Bentley Torcal’s launch is imminent, with a target global reveal set for September of this year. Normally, brands are already at this point, building up anticipation through teasers and announcements about the new car‘s features and capabilities. In the case of the Torcal, the British automaker is proudly announcing the integration of the Curation Engine.
Bentley’s new Curation Engine is basically a system designed to enhance the cabin and driving experience of the Torcal. Bentley claims that this new feature goes a step further than the usual cabin bespoke settings they already offer; the Curation Engine will give owners of the Torcal the ability to “transform the atmosphere of the entire cabin.” Specifically, light, sound, climate, and air quality work together with the system to create four distinct cabin modes (Bentley Mode, Comfort Mode, Sport Mode and Refresh Mode). These curated experiences are selected through the Curation Engine, positioned at the center of the cabin, and is designed like a crystallized knob.

Neuroscience
The carmaker claims that the system was developed using sensory neuroscience and was calibrated to operate together as a unified whole. This leads to a more intuitive and natural feel as opposed to being completely technological. Bentley Mode is the car’s default mode setting, which creates a warm, dynamic, and perfectly balanced atmosphere. Comfort Mode, meanwhile, is designed to reduce distractions and encourage relaxation. Apart from softening the lighting, drivers can choose a detox setting that reduces the flow of information and allows attention to shift away from screens.
Sport mode revives the senses, with a more immersive soundtrack and a focus on making the drive feel more responsive, immediate and precise, basically transforming the Torcal into an engaging driver’s SUV. Refresh Mode is a new mode specific to the Torcal; this setting allows more fresh air circulation and brighter interior cabin lights. It is primarily designed to combat fatigue and enhance driver and occupant alertness.
