Let’s talk about deep hole spray markers.
Have you ever tried to trace a small hole through thick materials? It’s not easy, even with long pencils or similar. Even if you trace the shape, is it accurate? High enough contrast to easily see?
That’s where chalk sprayers and similar tools come in handy.
This one is by Pica, and I’ll go over another brand and style later in this post.
It features a 360º adjustable spray arm. The Pica deep hole marker is also refillable and propelled using a non-aerosol pump.
Pica says their deep hole marker works with holes 1/8″ (3mm) and larger, and drill and fixture holes up to 10″ thick.
You can activate the spray to mark up to 1500 holes. The refill pack, sold separately, can fill the marker up to 3 times.
It’s priced at ~$12-18, and the refill pack is ~$6-8.

Ox Tools takes a different approach.
The Ox Tools Tuff Shot is a sort of “press and mark” type of tool. It works to mark holes up to 2″ deep.
Each cartridge can deliver up to 250 chalk bursts. It looks replaceable, but I couldn’t easily find replacement cartridges for sale anywhere.
It’s priced at just over $12 each.
There are some others that are kind of in between the Pica and Ox Tools designs, such as this one from Tracer. It’s priced at $18 and works with refill cartridges.
