I came across this new Klein Tools ModBox electrical tape holder (model 54874MB) on Amazon, and I think it looks good. Plus, it seems to be priced fairly.
While the tape holder is compatible with Klein ModBox rail systems, it also looks like you can use it standalone.
But if you do have ModBox tool boxes, here’s what it looks like clipped to the side.
The Klein electrical tape holder has a clear lid and single opening latch.
The dividers are removable, in case you have wider tapes.
It can fit up to 8 tape rolls. The product brochure also says that it can hold 7 “standard rolls plus a backup or specialty roll.”
While designed for common sizes of electrical tape, I wonder if this can also be used for artists tape, smaller rolls of gaffers tape, and similar.
This seems like a well thought out storage accessory for electricians.
The listed dimensions are 8″ long x 3.63″ tall x 5.12″ wide. It weighs 0.79 pounds (empty) and has a max load capacity of 10 lbs.
Price: $14.98
The case looks functional, it has ModBox compatibility, it looks like it can stand on its own for use separately, and the price is just $15 at the time of this posting.
Are there any “gotchas” that I’m not seeing?
I asked Klein about its max capacity, in the context of potential compatibility with other types of tape rolls, and will report back when I have an answer.
