Klein Tools has launched a new 3-drawer ModBox rolling tool box, model 54890MB.
If you ask me, this is going to upset competing brands that have fewer choices.
The new Klein ModBox 3-drawer tool box has 2 shallow drawers and 1 deep drawer.
The shallow drawers give you 3.40″ inches of height and adjustable dividers, for storing hand tools, power tool accessories, and supplies.

The larger bottom drawer has a depth of 5.73″ and can fit a range of cordless power tools or other bulky items.

All 3 drawers have ball bearing slides.
Additional features include a fold-away locking bar, steel-reinforced lock locations, 10″ wheels that Klein says are larger and more durable than the leading competitors’, side rails for attaching a range of compatible accessories, and a removable telescoping handle.

The top drawers each have a 20 pound load rating, and it’s 30 pounds for the lower drawer. Klein says the overall system, with tool boxes stacked on top and accessories on the sides, has a capacity of 250 pounds.
Price: $250
There’s Also the 2-Drawer ModBox Tool Box

If this doesn’t sound ideal for you, there’s also the 2-drawer ModBox tool box, 54801MB.
And the Standard Lidded Tool Box

There’s also the standard lidded tool box, 54100MBX. If you’re shopping for this one, I think the newer version – shown here – is worth buying over the first-gen model.
Last Chance for Blackout ModBox

Klein recently launched a special edition Blackout 3pc combo set, and priced it at a considerably discount compared to buying all of the tool boxes separately.
Most retailers sold out already. From what I’m seeing, it’s still available at Ohio Power Tool.
If you dawdled but have been meaning to get this combo, hurry up and make a decision fast.
Discussion
Why do I think the new Klein ModBox 3-drawer tool box will upset competitors? Well, it’s going to force them to up their game.
Lots of tool and modular tool box system users want more rolling drawer tool box options. Klein just gave them another one.
Meanwhile, some brands have just one rolling drawer tool box option, and others have none.
“But Klein has one” is not something tool brands are going to want to hear from their users, but that’s what’s going to happen.
This isn’t an innovative product, it’s just a different configuration of tech that Klein already has. But it satisfies users’ desires for a more space-efficient storage option, and shoves the industry forward even if just a little bit more.
