Leatherman’s newest Garage series experimental tool, an updated Crunch called the CAPTAIN’S CRUNCH just launched.
The Crunch has been discontinued, and so this could be your last chance to get one.
What’s special about the Crunch or Captain’s Crunch? It’s a Leatherman multi-tool with locking pliers. Is it awesome? I’d say so.
Supplies are limited.
More Details About the Leatherman Captain’s Crunch
I was a bit blindsided by the launch, and raced to get a post out.
20 minutes in, the Captain’s Crunch is still available, so let’s talk a little more about it.
It’s described as a special-edition version of the Crunch with gold PVC accents.
Leatherman says it’s a “fan favorite FINAL EDITION.”
Crunch is back for a final run. Leatherman Garage Batch #008: Captain’s Crunch gets a promotion with Machined Stainless Steel features—including a scalpel holder, T-shank holder, and bit adapter—that are finished with a gold PVD coating.

Here’s a photo of the original version Crunch – see Review: Leatherman Crunch Locking Pliers Multi-Tool.
I bought one for Clayton – who contributed that review – and then promptly ordered one for myself.

It had a serrated blade.

The original Crunch also had a couple of basic tools – screwdrivers and a file.

The Garage Series no. 8 special edition Leatherman Crunch has a scalpel blade holder and flat hex screwdriver bit holder.
This new version also comes with a Leatherman sheath with a little more decoration than the original.

The scalpel blade holder also has a “T-shank adapter,” allowing the special edition Leatherman Crunch multi-tool to be used with standard T-shank jig saw blades.

Leatherman’s final send-off for the Crunch has some new features, but also kept the core Crunch locking pliers functionality.
I love my Crunch multi-tool. This one looks to be an upgrade.
Price: $250

Should You Buy a Leatherman Garage Series Crunch Multi-Tool?
I really like my Leatherman Crunch. I wish I had another. The Garage Series enhancements to the design seem neat. This might be the last opportunity to get one.
But do I want it enough to splurge on the $250 price tag?
You’re probably thinking the same.
If it sells out right now, will you regret picking one up? Or if you buy one, will you regret spending the $250? Sometimes if you get stuck, following the path of least regret can help with purchasing decisions.
Right now we’re 45 minutes in, and the Captain’s Crunch is still available. Wait too long, and it will likely sell out, making the decision for you.
