Tekton Torque Wrench Recertification Service

Tekton launched a new torque wrench recertification and calibration service!

To be clear, they will only service TEKTON torque wrenches.

But, because of that limitation, Tekton says they’ve been able to i) keep the cost of service reasonable, and ii) turnaround time quick.

Here’s what the process looks like:

Step 1: Submit a form. Tekton will provide you with a prepaid shipping label with 1 business day.

Step 2: Package and ship your torque wrench. At this time they’re using UPS shipping labels.

Step 3: Tekton will test your torque wrench. They’re testing to ASME B107.300-2021 for split beam torque wrenches, or ISO 6789-1:2017 for micrometer and electronic torque wrenches.

Step 4: Tekton will email you confirmation and a new calibration certificate in PDF format, typically within 2 business days of receiving your torque wrench.

Step 5: Payment.

Step 6: They’ll ship your certified wrench and calibration certificate, and will provide a return tracking number.

How much will it cost?

If your wrench is tested to be within its stated accuracy, you’ll have to pay $50 for recertification. If your wrench requires adjustments, the cost for recalibration and recertification will total $75.

In other words, if your torque wrench is within spec, you’ll pay $50. If not, they’ll recalibrate it and you’ll pay $75. I imagine that you’ll hear from them in the rare case something is seriously wrong, such as if you dropped and damaged your tool.

As I understand it, the fee includes shipping both ways.

There’s one more clause – Tekton can only recertify electronic, micrometer, and split beam torque wrenches in their current lineup.

Thoughts

This looks like a very simplified process that tackles a lot of the reasons folks don’t calibrate or certify their torque tools.

Sounds like a great program to me.
