I have seen reports that Lowe’s is clearing their Kobalt tool box system from stores around the country, and also complaints about poor availability.
Looking online, I do see that some Kobalt Casestack tool boxes are on clearance at Lowe’s, and most of the others are unavailable.
From Lowe’s website, there’s just a single organizer tool box nearby, and that looks to be it for the entire Kobalt Casestack line.
Is this goodbye to Kobalt Casestack?
Klein recently launched ModBox 2.0. Bosch is launching L-Boxx Contractor and it will presumably fill in for Flex Stackpack at Lowe’s stores. Craftsman relaunched their Tradestack system as Versastack XL – see Hello Craftsman VersaStack XL, Goodbye Tradestack.
I think that it’s possible either Lowe’s has given up on Kobalt Casestack entirely, or are giving it a superficial 2.0 face lift. Kobalt Casestack 2.0, soon to launch in pink for Mother’s Day?
Whatever’s going on, you might be able to snag Casestack tool boxes or accessories at a discount, but keep in mind the uncertainty surrounding the modular tool box system. And if an update is coming, keep in mind how little Lowe’s has expanded their Kobalt tool box system over the past 4 years.
If you’re looking for clearanced tool boxes at Lowe’s stores, bring some hand wipes. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a plastic tool box at Lowe’s that wasn’t covered in a thick layer of grey dust.
