Mercedes-Benz unveiled the extensively updated 2027 S-Class sedan almost two months ago, and now it’s the turn of the even more luxurious Maybach S-Class. One of the only true Bentley and Rolls-Royce rivals in the world, the Maybach sedan has received many of the same updates as seen on the regular S-Class—along with a few exclusive changes unique to this posh sedan. Mercedes says this is the most extensive update in the history of the Maybach S-Class, which benefits from new materials, enhanced technologies, and an even bolder appearance than the outgoing model.

Like the Rolls-Royce Phantom and Ghost sedans, the Maybach’s visual appeal has typically relied on presence rather than beauty. The 2027 model still isn’t the prettiest sedan in the world, but few others can match its imposing aura.

2027 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Exterior Highlights

  • 20% larger grille with illuminated surround
  • Maybach name illuminated within the grille
  • New 20-/21-inch wheels with aligned, permanently upright Mercedes star in the center
  • New Night Series Exterior Package with darker finishes
  • Two new Manufaktur colors: Manufaktur Black Sparkling and Manufaktur Verde Silver Magno

Two-tone paint finishes have always been a Maybach trademark and are still available on this 2027 model. In fact, specifying this sedan could take hours, as there are over 150 exterior paints alone. The new Black Sparkling paint has a glass-flake clearcoat that shimmers like stardust. The floating Mercedes star within the forged wheels has a ball-bearing mechanism that keeps the logo upright at all times, taking a page out of Rolls-Royce’s book.

With the new Night Series Exterior Package, dark chrome accents and a limited selection of moody greys, blacks, and whites give the sedan a more sinister look.

Step inside—via available power-operated rear doors—and you’ll be greeted by one of the most advanced and opulent car interiors in the world. The dashboard is completely new and more screen-heavy than before, with a look that mirrors the electric EQS sedan’s. The previous Maybach’s quartet of four center vents are gone, as is the vertically-oriented center touchscreen.

2027 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Interior Highlights

  • Redesigned front/rear consoles
  • Standard MBUX Superscreen (14.4-inch center display, 12.3 inch driver’s display, and 12.3-inch passenger-side display)
  • Dual 13.1-inch rear displays with new remote controls
  • First-ever integration of MB.OS in a Maybach
  • New materials and colors, including Natural Grain Brown Amber Wood with Herringbone Pattern
  • New Manufaktur Made to Measure personalization program

Cutting-edge technology and classic luxury co-exist seamlessly in the new Maybach sedan. The latest MBUX system enables access to a smart Virtual Assistant powered by generative AI, which works with AI agents like ChatGPT 4o, Microsoft Bing Search, and Google Gemini. There’s also a new water-cooled supercomputer with enough power to run driver-assistance functions like MB.Drive Assist Pro and various parking assistance functions.

There are four new interior color combinations: Manufaktur Carmine Red/Black, Lake Green/Black, Corn Yellow/Black, and Tobacco Brown/Black. The new Made to Measure program can bring to life bespoke customer specifications, and in total, there are over 400 interior colors to choose from.

A dedicated rear refrigerated compartment, first-class executive rear seats, and a silver-plated Robbe & Berking champagne flute set are available.

Performance: New V8 and Iconic V12

In the Mercedes Maybach S580, there’s a revised version of the M177 Evo 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 engine. Technical upgrades include a mild-hybrid system, and this exceptionally refined powertrain now delivers 530 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque—up from 496 hp and 516 lb-ft in the current S580. Thanks to the new V8, the 0-60 time has dropped from 4.7 to 4.3 seconds. Merc’s 4Matic all-wheel-drive system and nine-speed automatic transmission remain standard.

The S680 keeps its 6.0-liter turbocharged V12, which makes 621 hp and 664 lb-ft. It’s now no quicker than the V8, with the same 4.3-second 0-60 time. For many, though, the V12 is the ultimate in status and refinement for a sedan in this category.

The Maybach already offered world-class comfort, but the 2027 model has a new Airmatic air suspension with predictive damping that makes for an even better ride, specifically for rear-seat passengers.

“At Mercedes-Maybach, true luxury has always been defined by a profound sense of calm and relaxation,” said Markus Bauer, Head of Mercedes-Maybach, Mercedes-Benz AG. “With the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, we reaffirm this commitment once more. Through a series of carefully orchestrated refinements, we offer our customers a truly unparalleled driving experience.”

Pricing for the 2027 Maybach hasn’t been shared yet, but the 2026 model starts at $207,150 for the S580 and goes up to $244,400 for the S680. Considering the Rolls-Royce Ghosts starts at around $370k, the Maybach’s price looks like a comparative bargain.

The new Maybach will start arriving at U.S. dealerships in the second half of 2026.

Final Thoughts

2027 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class

Mercedes-Benz

There’s little doubt that the 2027 Mercedes-Maybach will continue to be one of the finest luxury sedans in the world. Some may lament the screen-heavy interior, which is undoubtedly sumptuous but lacks the charm of a Bentley Flying Spur’s cabin. Mercedes’ willingness to continue offering the V12 is appreciated, even though the upgraded V8 is just as quick and will likely be cheaper. For buyers in this category who appreciate the latest tech and effortless power, the new Maybach will be hard to beat.
