Gaining Momentum
Genesis is, for all intents and purposes, a force to be reckoned with in the new luxury segment. It has expanded so much that people now consider it a top choice for premium mobility against established brands in that segment. Recently, Genesis has been aggressive in launching new models and trying to offer a car for every type of car enthusiast, from the sporty to the ultra-luxury.
It seems the brand isn’t done, and whispers of two new models are now circulating. People are already speculating that a new coupe is in the works, and the fan-made renders look exquisite.
Reviving The Coupe
We recently reported that the Genesis brand quietly patented the X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible. The brand showcased these two cars last year, and Genesis has official renders. Instagrammer Kelsonik takes it a step further by offering his own renderings of what the Genesis G90 Coupe could look like, based on the X Gran Coupe patent filings.
Like the concepts and patent filings, the new render highlights the G90 Coupe’s close relation to the brand’s flagship G90 sedan. In this render, the G90 Coupe features a sleek, sculpted design, accentuated by the sloping roofline and two-door layout. What sets Kelsonik’s renders apart are the color combinations; he went for a loud red-and-orange (rims) look that screams Genesis Magma, and a more subdued, understated gray-on-gray motif.

The Patents
Kelsonik’s renders are a purely fan-based, fantastical exercise, but they could be close to reality if Genesis decides to put these cars into production. Patents show intent but don’t necessarily guarantee an actual production model. The current U.S. patent filings protect only the design of the Genesis X Gran Coupe and Gran Convertible, not technical details like the engine, specs, or technology.
Genesis describes the X patents as new takes on the G90, not all-new models, which means it could be possible to create them since the G90 already exists and is in production. The last time Genesis appeared in coupe form was when it was still under the Hyundai name and was in production from 2008 up to 2016. At the time, it directly competed with the Toyota 86, Subaru BRZ, and Nissan 370Z.
