Jason wrote about Icon’s latest over-the-top build yesterday, and welp, it turns out a lot of you guys and gals aren’t totally enthused about the C10-skinned, faux-patina’d Silverado “retro-mod” as a truck concept – not for a cool $500,000 at least. There were thoughtful comments aplenty about phony patina, the idea of a new-old truck, and how much one could get for $500,000 spread amongst other vehicles. No one but Phil, however, said what needed to be said: you’re all a bunch of little babies. They MADE what you WANT just BUY IT. Gawd!
Phil:
WELL LOOKY HERE AT ALL THE WHINERS!
“I want a short cab pickup, why won’t someone make it for me” they say
“I want a proper bench seat and handcrank windows” they say
“I want a simple pushrod V8 that’ll last forever” they say (L87 *chortle*)
“I’d happily buy it new!” they say
Now that someone builds one and it costs, like, not even a single million dollars, and it’s suddenly not good enough.
Bonus salty talk and a nice Zoolander ref from Rod and Totally:
Rod Millington:
For $500k this thing better derelict my balls.
Totally not a robot:
It doesn’t even have Blue Steel installed.
What if we took the Icon retro-mod concept to its not-at-all logical extreme? Cheap Bastard:
For THAT price I expect a genuine bona fide working (wo)man’s blue collar human skinsuit too
Lizardman in a human suit:
Shoot. Ya want a human suit? I’ll give ya one for free, no purchase of a fake old truck required
Cheap Bastard:
Do you have a powered human suit in Arnold Schwarzenegger, circa 1974?

Antti wrote about regular-guy Pope Leo XIV and his affinity for automotive repair, which gave me a nice opportunity for a funny topshot. I’ll confess I was pretty pleased with myself for coming up with the pun, and enjoyed Dodsworth’s expansion on the bit even more:
“He saved a wrench like me.” That’s pretty amazing, Grace.
And thank you, Grayvee280, for giving me the sweet, sweet validation that I crave. I will be sustained by this comment until Friday, at a minimum:
Epic puns like “He Saved a Wrench like me” are how I know I am on the right site!
Alrighty, I gotta get back to today’s stories. Mercedes will be back for COTD tonight, so expect quality to go way up.
