Meet the new Pelican Crate.
Pelican recently launched their new Pelican Crate tool and gear storage and transport system, and I’ve been finding it to be underwhelming.
Oh, I’m sure it’s everything they’re claiming, it’s just that I expected a bit… I don’t know – more?

To start off, the new Pelican Crates can stack together. It’s what crates do.

Dustproof? Yes.

Waterproof? Yes.
It’s dust abd weather resistant to IP67 standards.

The organizational options look pretty good too, with attachable MOLLE panels for hand tools. Cordless power tools and more can go into the larger main compartment.

The crates have a multi-position lid. Basically, as with some tote boxes on the market today, the latches on either side of the lid can serve as hinges when the opposite side latched have been opened.

You can also remove the lid completely.

You might notice the attachment on the side of the Pelican Crate.

That’s the built-in ModRail system.

There are 2 attachments at the time of this posting, a MonoRail cleat, and a bar.

There are 2 sizes, 45L and 90L, and 2 colors, black and tan.

The smaller crate looks like it could be manageable. Although, I don’t see side handles, only recesses. Is that part of the intent behind the Pelican ModRail cleat?
Here’s some of what Pelican has said about the new crate system, for context:
CRATE isn’t just a case — it’s a fully configurable cargo ecosystem built for the way you actually move and deploy gear.
CRATE turns any vehicle or worksite into a precision-organized base of operations

This is an ecosystem?
Don’t get me wrong – I love Pelican cases and have no doubt these are sturdy, durable, and resilient.
But that’s it?
You can find all of the individual features elsewhere. So what’s unique or revolutionary here?
I’m not impressed yet.
Maybe this is just the start?
Here’s the biggest question that I haven’t seen Pelican answer yet: what types of users is this new storage ecosystem for?
From Pelican specs, the new Crate gear cases are made in the USA.
