A solid mechanic’s tool set is one of those things that easily pays for itself within the first few uses. Perfect for anyone handling routine maintenance, small repairs, or unexpected fixes, having the right sockets and a dependable ratchet on hand makes the job faster and easier. For homeowners who like to work on their own vehicles or tackle projects around the house, a compact yet complete socket set can also be a lifesaver when something needs attention right away.
With this deal we found at Lowe’s, you can get the Kobalt 55-Piece Mechanics Tool Set for just $40, a solid 43% discount off its normal $70 price tag. Designed around a dedicated 3/8-inch drive, this set focuses on the sizes most commonly used for automotive and household repairs. It’s equally at home living in a garage drawer or riding along in a trunk for roadside emergencies, giving you peace of mind wherever you take it.
The kit includes a total of 50 deep and shallow sockets, covering both metric and SAE sizes, which means you’re prepared for a wide range of nuts and bolts without needing to hunt for extra pieces. A 90-tooth ratchet provides smooth operation with a short swing arc, making it easier to work in tight spaces. Two socket extensions, one 3-inch and one 6-inch, add flexibility for reaching bolts that are tucked away under the car or recessed in tight engine bays.
All of the tools are made from heat-treated chrome vanadium steel and finished with a high-polish coating that resists corrosion and cleans up easily after greasy jobs. Each socket features a 6-point design to help prevent rounding fasteners, while hard-stamped size markings remain legible over time. Everything fits securely in a carrying case that is easy to store and transport. Kobalt also backs it with a hassle-free lifetime guarantee, which adds long-term value.
