In March 2023, GM surprised everyone when it announced ditching Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for its upcoming electric vehicles. However, the plan doesn’t seem to work out as expected. After its new software chief, Mike Abbott, resigned in March, GM is laying off over 1,000 software employees, making the dream of developing in-house software even more distant.
